Project Description

Within the framework of our cooperation with the Municipality of Nea Filadelfeia – Nea Chalkidona, ENSOGREEN undertook the integrated application of biological spraying to protect pine trees from the pine processionary moth (Thaumetopoea pityocampa), an insect that threatens both tree health and public health.

The Project

The intervention took place:

In the Grove of Nea Filadelfeia
In school units
In playgrounds
In squares and sidewalks
In public spaces of the city

Our goal was the effective and safe biological control of the pine processionary moth, with respect for the urban environment and the citizens.

The Method

To address the problem, a biological insecticide based on Bacillus thuringiensis was applied, a specialized and environmentally friendly solution that:

Exclusively targets the pine processionary caterpillar
Does not burden the ecosystem
Is safe for humans and animals
Protects the biodiversity of urban spaces

The Result

With the integrated and timely implementation of the program:

The population of the pine processionary moth was significantly reduced
The pine trees and their health were protected
The safety of citizens, especially children and vulnerable groups, was ensured
