Construction of Erosion Control & Flood Protection Works – Afidnes Section

ENSOGREEN participated in the implementation of the project “Construction of erosion control – flood protection works in burnt areas 2021” in the fire-affected areas of Varibobi, Tatoi, and Afidnes, Attica, undertaking the Afidnes Section (Ippokrateios Politeia area).

This is an immediate environmental restoration project, aiming at:

• Soil protection against erosion
• Retention of sediment and debris
• Reduction of flood risks
• Slope stabilization following a fire
• Supporting the natural regeneration of the forest ecosystem

Subcontracting Scope

ENSOGREEN undertook the complete and professional construction of the following interventions:

✔ Construction of Log Check Dams in torrent beds

• Total area: 700 sq.m.
• The log dams were placed within streams to:
  • slow down water flow
  • retain sediment and debris
  • reduce the risk of flooding during the winter period

✔ Construction of Log Barriers & Wattle Barriers on Slopes

• Total length: 50,000 linear meters
• Application on burnt slopes and high-gradient surfaces
• Goal:
  • soil stabilization
  • limitation of surface runoff
  • protection against erosion phenomena
